Two UNP affiliated organisations called for former Speaker Karu Jayasuriya to be appointed as the new leader of the party, and they said it would not be advisable to appoint a young leader for it in a crisis situation.

The Election Commission (EC) has proposed to impose a deposit for political party candidates as well as to increase the current deposit for independent groups.

Tissa Attanayake, the National Organizer of Samagi Jana Balawegaya has held discussions with United National Party (UNP) Leader Ranil Wickremesinghe to unite the two parties, reports Deshaya weekend newspaper.
