Amidst vehement protests of SL AS officers and international concerns on militarization of civil service,President Gotabaya Rajapaksa has defended the appointment of ex-military officers to top posts in state institutions.

President Gotabaya Rajapaksa yesterday expressed confidence that the economy will rebound this year, despite external shocks such as the novel coronavirus COVID-19, since the Government has provided a range of supports for the private sector, such as tax cuts and debt relief, along with security and stability.

Election Commission Chairman Mahinda Deshapriya has ordered the Public Administration, Internal Affairs, Provincial Councils and Local Government Ministry Secretary to suspend the training programme for newly recruited graduates to the state sector until a week after the election results are published.

උපාධිධාරී අභ්‍යාසලාභීන් ලෙස පුහුණුව ලබාදීම සහ ජන්ද ප්‍රතිපල නිකුත් කර සතියක් ගතවන තුරු අත්හිටුවන්නැයි මැතිවරණ කොමිසන් සභාවේ සභාපති මහින්ද දේශප්‍රිය රාජ්‍ය පරිපාලන ස්වදේශ කටයුතු පළාත් පාලන අමාත්‍යාංශ ලේකම්වරයාට නියෝග කර තිබෙනවා.

ඇතිවී තිබෙන වත්මන් තත්ත්වය හේතුවෙන් මාර්තු මස 10 වෙනිදා සිට මාර්තු 30 වෙනිදා තෙක් චීනය දක්වා සිදු කරන ගුවන් ගමන් නතර කිරිමට ශ්‍රී ලන්කන් ගුවන් සමාගම තීරණය කර තිබෙනවා.

The Central Bank (CB) is still to take a decision on the sixth forensic audit into the Treasury bond scam after handing over the five completed forensic audit reports to Attorney General and parliament, CB Deputy Governor H.A. Karunaratne told a media conference in Colombo on Thursday.

පසුගිය යහපාලන ආණ්ඩුවේ ඇමතිවරුන් පිරිසක් තවමත් ඔවුන් භාවිතා කළ නිළ නිවාස ආපසු බාරදීමට කටයුතු කර නොමැති බව වාර්තා වේ. එසේ නිළ නිවාස බාර නොදුන් හිටපු ඇමතිවරුන්ට එරෙහිව නීතිමය පියවර ගැනීමට රාජ්‍ය පරිපාලන හා ස්වදේශ කටයුතු අමාත්‍යංශය තීරණය කර තිබේ.

Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa yesterday appointed a committee to streamline the regulatory processes of the quarry industry. The committee is expected to submit an initial report in within two weeks, said the Prime Minister’s media unit in press release.

Sri Lanka will host the next Bay of Bengal Initiative for Multi-Sectoral Technical and Economic Cooperation (BIMSTEC) summit in early September this year, President Gotabaya Rajapaksa told Secretary General M Shahidul Islam. The Secretary General Islam called on the President at the Presidential Secretariat yesterday.
