The United National Party (UNP) has suspended the membership of another 37 Local Government (LG) members.

Senior member of the Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP) and former Gampaha District MP Vijitha Herath said that the Party would not allow the repeal of the 19th Amendment to Constitution and would join forces with any Party in the next Parliament to block any such moves, this week.

Former President Chandrika Kumaratunga has returned 4 of the 12 vehicles allocated to her by the Presidential Secretariat. In a letter sent to the Secretary to the President Dr. P.B. Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa yesterday said he trusts that the Muslim community will vote for the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) at the parliamentary election to form a strong Government that can eradicate extremism in the country.

The Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) will hold its final election rally in Tangalle on 2 August, with the participation of Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa. Accordingly, the SLPP will hold a string of rallies on the final day for campaigning in the Hambantota District and the SLPP Prime Ministerial Candidate will participate in all of them, the SLPP said in a statement.
