The Government is yet to take a decision on holding the long-delayed provincial council (PC) election, despite the earlier predictions made by several other government members that the election would be held mid next year, according to Secretary to the Ministry of Public Services, Provincial Councils, and Local Government J.J. Ratnasiri.

Finance Ministry Secretary S.R. Atygalle informed the Public Finance Committee of Parliament yesterday that Rs. 1,124 billion or 74% of the 2020 fiscal revenue has been received so far. This is out of the Rs. 1,580 billion estimated total Government revenue for this year, he said.

Sri Lanka had to pay around Rs.930 million annually in the past to sustain labour sections in the country’s foreign missions, especially in the Middle East, Labour Minister Nimal Siripala de Silva said.

Following the announcement by Fitch Ratings downgrading Sri Lanka’s Long-Term Foreign-Currency Issuer Default Rating (IDR) to 'CCC', the Ministry of Finance has responded saying that the rating action is based on uncorroborated facts sans due consideration given to recent economic and policy developments.

The Education Ministry will take a final decision on the Ordinary Level Examination in early December after reviewing the situation.
