Former Military Intelligence chief Brigadier Suresh Salley has been appointed as the head of State Intelligence Service (SIS) by President Gotabaya Rajapaksa, informed sources said.

After announcing a series of tax concessions by the Government, the Sri Lanka Bureau of Foreign Employment (SLBFE) has revised the payment for registration and renewal fees of migrant workers with effect from December 1.

In a move to strengthen the state bureaucracy and protect public officers from future political reprisal, the Government is to undertake a probe into political witch-hunts against certain targeted public officers during the last government. New laws and mechanisms are also under consideration to ensure greater protection for the state bureaucracy in the future, it was announced yesterday.

The Sri Lanka government today said that it continues to maintain that Brigadier Priyanka Fernando as a diplomat who was attached to the Sri Lanka High Commission in London is entitled to diplomatic immunity as per Article 31 of the Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations of 1961, during the period of the incident.
