Consumers should purchase their fuel from Ceylon Petroleum Corporation filling stations rather than from the more expensive private sector stations, Highways and Road Development and Petroleum Resources Development Minister Kabir Hashim said in Parliament yesterday.

Brushing up his credentials as a leader that supports democratic principles, Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe yesterday said the country needs a leader who will promote democracy and not a “Terminator” who will destroy the gains made by democratic institutions in the past four years.

Referring to comments made by Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) National Organiser Basil Rajapaksa on Thursday, Wickremesinghe noted he has championed democratic rights since 2015 and worked to provide equitable freedoms to all people. He called on all stakeholders to act sensibly and protect the country’s future from a terminator that will destroy the democratic gains that have been achieved by this Government.

A more broad and stable political alliance will definitely be formed before the end of August to steer the country forward Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe said yesterday.

The Committee on High Posts of the Parliament of Sri Lanka to Examine the Suitability of Persons Nominated/Appointed to the State Services and State Corporations (High Posts Committee) has approved the appointments of thirteen persons nominated by President Maithripala Sirisena, as Heads of Sri Lanka Missions overseas.

President Maithripala Sirisena began a four day state visit to Cambodia yesterday on an invitation extended by the Cambodian Government. Large photographs of the President and of Mrs. Sirisena were displayed alongside that of Cambodia’s titular monarch at main junctions in Pnom Penh.
