The repatriation of Overseas Sri Lankans (OSLs) are being carried out by giving priority to the most vulnerable categories due to the limited availability of quarantine facilities in the country, Foreign Secretary Ravinatha Aryasinha has said. In his comments to a radio and a tv programme on Friday, the Secretary said through the ‘Contact Sri Lanka’ web portal and other means, to-date, over 27,000 OSLs have expressed their wish to return. This number includes over 17,000 migrant workers and dependents, 6,000 students and about 3,000 short term visa holders and tourists. Secretary Aryasinha said the government’s focus in the present wave of repatriation was on students and those on government training in South Asia, considering the particular vulnerability they faced from a medical perspective.

The Director-General of Health Services has authorized the Attorney General’s Department to resume work in par with the operational guidelines issued on preventing the spread of COVID-19, the department said.

කොවිඩ් 19 මර්ධනය සදහා සෞඛ්‍ය අමාත්‍යාංශය යටතේ ක්‍රියාත්මක සෞඛ්‍ය හදිසි මෙහෙයුම් මධ්‍යස්ථානය ප්‍රාදේශීය ලේකම් කොට්ඨාස මට්ටමින් ද ක්‍රියාකාරි ඒකකයක් ලෙස ක්‍රියාත්මක විය යුතු බව අමාත්‍ය පවිත්‍රා වන්නිආරච්චි මහත්මිය පවසනවා.

Vesak celebrations this year will be confined to the home as a result of the coronavirus pandemic.

The Curfew currently in force in Colombo, Gampaha, Kalutara and Puttlam districts will continue until May 04 while curfew in all other districts will be relaxed at 5.00 am on Monday April 27 and will be re-imposed at 8.00 pm on the same day.

The Sri Lanka Air Force (SLAF) has successfully tested a Y-12 aircraft which was modified into an air ambulance to assist medical evacuation operations due to the COVID-19 outbreak.

An island-wide curfew will be in effect throughout this weekend (April 25 and 26).

The Sri Lanka Transport Board (SLTB) has decided to provide transportation to the public and private sector employees of the Colombo district through a systematic procedure once the curfew is lifted.

Sri Lanka Navy says that around 4000 people at the Sri Lanka Navy Camp in Welisara, including sailors and their families, were quarantined within the camp while tests were carried out to ascertain if they had contracted the Novel Coronavirus.
