The government was considering resuming the Demerit Points System for driving licenses, Transport Minister Mahinda Amaraweera said yesterday.

Employees of Colombo Port resumed their protest campaign this afternoon demanding the government to start East Container Terminal (ECT) operations soon directly under the Sri Lanka Ports Development Authority.

නිරෝධායන මධ්‍යස්ථානවල නිරෝධායනය වෙමින් සිටින ඡන්දදායකන්ටද සිය ඡන්දය ප්‍රකාශ කිරීම සඳහා අවස්ථාව ලබාදීමට මැතිවරණ කොමිසම තීරණය කර තිබෙනවා. ඒ අනුව ඔවුන්ට ඡන්දය ප්‍රකාශ කිරීම සඳහා ජුලි 31 වැනිදා වෙන්කර තිබේ.

මහජන සෞඛ්‍ය පරීක්ෂකවරුන් විසින් දිවයින පුරා ක‍්‍රියාත්මක කර ඇති කොරෝනා මර්දන හා ඩෙංගු ඇතුළු බෝවන රෝග මර්දන කටයුතුවලින් ඉවත් වීමේ වෘත්තීය ක‍්‍රියාමාර්ගය හේතුවෙන් ඔවුන් සහභාගී වන කොරෝනා ආසාදිතයින්ගේ ස්පර්ශකයින් සොයා යෑම හා නිරෝධායන කටයුතු සඳහා යොමු කිරීම ඇතුළු කටයුතු මෙන්ම බෝවන රෝග මර්දන කටයුතු ද අඩපණ වී ඇති බව සෞඛ්‍ය අංශ පවසයි.

රාජ්‍ය සේවයේ නිරතව සිට විශ‍්‍රාම ගිය හය ලක්ෂයක් පමණ වන සියලූම විශ‍්‍රාමිකයින්ට අග‍්‍රහාර රක්ෂණ ප‍්‍රතිලාභ ප‍්‍රදානය කිරීම සම්බන්ධයෙන් අග‍්‍රාමාත්‍ය මහින්ද රාජපක්ෂ මහතා විසින් ඉදිරිපත් කරන ලද යෝජනාවට ඊයේ (22) පැවති අමාත්‍ය මණ්ඩල රැස්වීමේදී අනුමැතිය හිමිව තිබෙනවා.

Two hundred and fifty nine persons were released from quarantine yesterday after they tested negative for COVID-19 and completed the mandated quarantine program, as 15 persons tested positive for the virus. According to the Epidemiology Unit of the Health Ministry, the total number of confirmed cases has risen to 2,745 with 656 infected patients under medical care. No COVID-19 infected patients were reported on Tuesday with 1,100 PCR tests conducted. There were no reports of infected patients recovering and being discharged yesterday keeping the total number to recover at 2,064. A total of 141,515 PCR tests have been conducted in Sri Lanka from the start of the pandemic to 21 July with medical professionals and Opposition politicians calling on the Government early on to expand national testing capacity.

Central Bank of Sri Lanka (CBSL) has taken measures to pay maximum compensation of Rs. 600,000 per depositor of ETI Finance Limited (ETIFL) and Swarnamahal Financial Services PLC (SFSP) from July 25.

Just over 140 incidents of rape, 42 cases of serious sexual abuse and 54 cases of child abuse have been reported from various police divisions in the country in the first 15 days of 2020.
