New Government led by President Gotabya Rajapaksa wielding unprecedented power gained from 20A began the preparing of a new constitution for the country embroiled in Covd-19 and economic hard ships.

The 20th Amendment (20A) to the Constitution Bill was passed in Parliament last night with 156 MPs voting for the Bill and 65 against.

අධ්‍යන පොදු සහතික පත්‍ර උසස්පෙළ අදාළව සාමාන්‍ය පොදු පරීක්ෂණය සඳහා ඉල්ලුම් කර ඇති විභාග අපේක්ෂකයින් සම්බන්ධයෙන් විභාග දෙපාර්තමේන්තුව නිවේදනයක් නිකුත් කර තිබේ.

2030 වසර වනවිට ගෝලීය තිරසර සංවර්ධන ඉලක්ක සාක්ෂාත් කර ගැනීම උදෙසා ශ‍්‍රී ලංකාව කැපවන බව අග‍්‍රාමාත්‍ය මහින්ද රාජපක්ෂ මහතා පවසනවා.

Army Chief and Head of the National Operation Centre for Prevention of COVID-19 Outbreak (NOCPCO), Lt. General Shavendra Silva yesterday said they did not intend to lockdown or impose a curfew in the entire Colombo District over the weekend as they had not tracked down any more areas which posed a threat from the COVID-19 as of now.

Quarantine curfew would be imposed in Kotahena Police area with effect from 6 p.m today, Army Commander Shavendra Silva said.

The World Health Organisation (WHO) had informed the Health Ministry that a vaccine approved by the WHO may be available for COVID-19 shortly and the ministry was preparing for that, Health Minister Pavithra Wanniarachchi said yesterday.

The Government yesterday said it has sufficient evidence to prove that the remnants of the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) and groups aligned with its terrorist ideology are active in foreign countries, working to incite violence and destabilise the country. This is following the Open Judgement by the Proscribed Organizations Appeals Commission (POAC) of the United Kingdom on 21 October. The decision of the POAC arises from an appeal filed in May 2019 by an LTTE front organisation challenging the decision of the UK Secretary of State for Home Affairs dated 8 March 2019, which refused the application by the group to de-proscribe the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) from the list of Proscribed Organizations under the UK Terrorism Act of 2000.

The Foreign Ministry has suspended all services offered by the Consular Affairs Division of the Ministry until further notice to restrict the congregation of the general public and thereby to prevent the spreading of COVID-19 Virus, the Ministry said.
