The Joint Postal Trade Union (JPTU) said that they had decided to launch a 48-hour token strike at the Central Mail Exchange (CME), Colombo from this evening over three demands.

තව මාස 05කින් මේ රටේ ජනතාවට අලුත් ආණ්ඩුවක් හැදීමට අවස්ථාව හිමි වන අතර පිරිසිදු සැබෑ මානවවාදී, රටට ආදරය කරන සහ දූෂණයෙන් වංචාවෙන් තොර අවංක දේශපාලනඥයන් සිටින ජනතාවාදී ආණ්ඩුවක් පත් කර ගැනීමට එහි දී ජනතාව සිය ඡන්ද බලය භාවිත කරනු ඇතැයි තමන් අපේක්ෂා කරන බව ජනාධිපති මෛත්‍රිපාල සිරිසේන මහතා පවසනවා.

President Maithripala Sirisena said today he would declare a National Day of Mourning if a bill to abolish the death penalty was brought before Parliament.

The Nuwara Eliya District Hospital, built at a cost of Rs.07 billion, was inaugurated by President Maithripala Sirisena, yesterday. The hospital with state-of-the-art facilities was built with funds obtained through a soft loan from the Netherlands Government. Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe on Sunday said there were as many as 300 allegations against Minister Bathiudeen and a bulk of them were baseless. "The CID reports have cleared Mr. Bathiudeen," the Prime Minister said.

Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe yesterday said the Government had been unable to resolve key political issues of the Tamil community over the last four years due to the lack of a clear Parliament majority but assured they will be resolved in the next two years.
