ජනාධිපතිවරණයට පෙර පළාත් සභා මැතිවරණය පැවැත්වීමේ හැකියාව සම්බන්ධයෙන් ජනාධිපති මෛත්‍රීපාල සිරිසේන මහතා ශ්‍රේෂ්ඨාධිකරණයෙහි මතය විමසා ඇති බව මැතිවරණ කොමිසමේ සභාපති මහින්ද දේශප්‍රිය මහතා පවසයි.

Brushing up his credentials as a leader that supports democratic principles, Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe yesterday said the country needs a leader who will promote democracy and not a “Terminator” who will destroy the gains made by democratic institutions in the past four years.

Referring to comments made by Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) National Organiser Basil Rajapaksa on Thursday, Wickremesinghe noted he has championed democratic rights since 2015 and worked to provide equitable freedoms to all people. He called on all stakeholders to act sensibly and protect the country’s future from a terminator that will destroy the democratic gains that have been achieved by this Government.

The Committee on High Posts of the Parliament of Sri Lanka to Examine the Suitability of Persons Nominated/Appointed to the State Services and State Corporations (High Posts Committee) has approved the appointments of thirteen persons nominated by President Maithripala Sirisena, as Heads of Sri Lanka Missions overseas.

The Government will present an interim budget for the first quarter of next year from January 1 to April 30, 2020, Leader of the House, Minister Lakshman Kiriella told the Daily News yesterday.

Kurunegala Mayor Thushara Sanjeewa Witharana (SLPP) was today remanded till September 17 by Kurunegala High Court Judge Menaka Wijesundara for not appearing in Court on July 25 when a case filed against him was taken up for hearing.
