More than 1700 police officers will be deployed for traffic and security arrangements on October 7 when nominations are accepted for the presidential election.
Police Spokesman Ruwan Gunasekara said that a special traffic arrangement would be in effect along Sri Jayawardenapura Road and Old Kotte Road.
The traffic arrangements are as follows ;
Sri Jayawardenapura Road
The road between Ayurveda Roundabout and Welikada junction will be closed for vehicles leaving Colombo from 6 am.
Vehicles entering Colombo will be able to use two lanes of the Sri Jayawardenapura Road while one road will be allocated for party supporters.
Old Kotte Road
The road between Ayurveda Roundabout and Welikada junction will be closed for vehicles entering Colombo
Vehicles leaving Colombo can use two lanes of the Old Kotte Road
Sarana Mawatha, Rajagiriya will also be closed for vehicles and pedestrians except for authorised persons
Police have advised drivers to use the following alternative routes during this time period ;
Vehicles travelling from Kaduwela can reach Borella through Orugodawatte and Baseline Road.
Vehicles travelling from Malabe can reach Orugodawatte or Dematagoda through Chandrika Kumaratunga Mawatha, Ambatale, and Wellampitiya.
Vehicles travelling from Thalangama can reach Baseline road through Ambagaha junction, IDH Road, and Kolonnawa.
Vehicles travelling from Thalangama can reach Nugegoda High Level Road, by travelling through Denzil Kobbekaduwa Mawatha, Kimbulawala junction, Madiwela Road, Pita Kotte, and Pagoda
Meanwhile, police said that vehicle parades and rallies would be banned on this day. Legal action would be taken for those who violate this law, police warned.
