DIG Nalaka de Silva has been behind the transfer of the OIC of a TID unit against Islamic Terrorism and Fundamentalism, who had initiated investigations against the Easter Sunday bombings mastermind - Zahran Hashim, reports reveal.
However, testifying before the Parliament Select Committee which was appointed to probe the bombings, Nalaka Silva had stated that the opportunity to arrest Zahran was lost after he himself was arrested.
The OIC transferred by DIG Nalaka was also an officer who had been injured during a mission to seek out Gopi, Appan and Theviyan who had attempted to lead the LTTE in Sri Lanka.
DIG Silva had transferred this officer and stagnated the investigation. In the end, the remaining officers of the Islamic Terrorism and Fundamentalism unit too, had been transferred. Two sub inspectors, two sergeants and five constables had been transferred in this manner.
