At least 80 percent of 15.5 million registered voters countrywide will go to the polls to cast their votes to elect the next President of Sri Lanka from two front running candidates Sajith Premadasa and Gotabaya Rajapaksa on Saturday 16.
Security at polling booths and surrounding areas has been beefed up by deploying 60,175 police officers and 8080 security officers of Civil Defense Force.
A total of 25,712 police officers, at two officers each will be deployed for 12,856 polling booths across the country. Each polling booth will have either two male officers or one female and one male officer.
According to the election officials there are 43 vote counting centers island wide and 2,193 police officers will be deployed for the centers.
