Do not park vehicles without anyone inside: Police

Police request public not to leave their vehicles parked alone on roadsides due to any technical failures or any other reason without keeping a person in the vehicle or if not they should inform it to the police emergency, Police spokesman SP Ruwan Gunasekera said.

Several incidents were reported to police during previous months over the abandoning of vehicles on roadsides without leaving anyone inside or without any contact details.

If anyone was unable to keep a person near or inside the parked vehicle due to unavoidable circumstances, the vehicle owner or the driver should inform it to the relevant police station via the 119 police emergency number.

The vehicle owner or the driver should inform the following details to the police emergency: The Details of the vehicle, the reason for parking the vehicle, owner's details, driver's details, the person who would be kept inside the vehicle and the place of the vehicle parked.

The vehicle owner or driver should place their contact details which should be seen to outsiders.

If anyone leaves their vehicles without abiding by these rules and causing a tense situation in the area, the Special Task Force officers or bomb disposal unit or other security concerns have the full authority to inspect every part of the vehicle.

Also, a special investigation regarding the ownership of such vehicles will have to be conducted.
