The UNP is scheduled to submit a complaint to the Election Commission demanding an investigation and required action pertaining to an advertisement being published using a quote and image of the current Army Commander Shavendra Silva, said the former UNP General Secretary Tissa Attanayake.
The complaint demands that an investigation be launched immediately and necessary action be taken against those responsible as it is a violation of election laws to use the image or quotes by a serving army commander for political campaigns.
Tissa Attanayake said that a written complaint would also be hanaded over to President Maithripala Sirisena regarding this matter.
Expressing his views to the media the Army Commander Lt. Gen. Shavendra Silva said that an old statement made by him had been used for political campaigning without his knowledge.
