Children could suffer physical and mental abuse if they are used for political activities during the presidential election and as such legal action would be initiated against such parties under the laws related to child abuse, said the Director General of the National Child Protection Authority Anoma Siriwardena.
She noted that the Child Protection Bureau had received complaints from the general public that children were being used for political activities during the presidential election campaigning.
Therefore, she stated that if such complaints are received, legal action would be taken against the perpetrators and such complaints could be reported on 1929.
The Child Protection Authority appealed to all political parties, independent groups and individuals to refrain from using children for political campaign activities.
