Winds and showers to continue

Windy and showery conditions in the southwestern parts of the island are expected to worsen to some extent, the Department of Meteorology said today (13).

A sudden increase in wind speeds up to 70kmph is likely in the Southern province while an increase up to 50–60kmph is likely in the Western, Sabaragamuwa, Central and North-western provinces.

The Met Department further said that wind speeds in the North-central province and Trincomalee district may also increase up to 40–50 kmph.

Showers or thundershowers will occur in the Western, Sabaragamuwa, Central, Southern and North-western provinces, while heavy falls above 100mm are likely to occur in parts of the Sabaragamuwa and Central provinces.

Showers or thundershowers may also occur in parts of Ampara and Batticaloa districts after 2pm, the Met Department added.
