Around 15,000 persons in the private sector have been left unemployed due to the second COVID-19 wave, the Labour department states.
This was revealed through the complaints received to the department and to their website, says Labour Commissioner General Prabhath Chandrakeerthi.
Noting that the above figure does not include those in the Tourism sector, Mr. Chandrakeerthi said that a broad programme has been initiated to provide them relief.
Accordingly, factors such as reinstating them or providing them with a reasonable compensation are being considered, he added.
