The Chairman and directors of the Fisheries Corporation are said to be secretly planning to lease out to a private party the profit making Ice plant located within the Galle Harbour, it is reported.
The tender process for this purpose was opened on July 17th and that too not in a proper manner.
It is reported that this ice factory has the capacity to produce 1024 cubes of ice each weighing 50 kg, netting a monthly profit of Rs. 1 million.
However, the Fisheries Corporation General Workers Union alleged that the leasing of this profit making ice plant is a first step in the privatisation process of the entire Fisheries Corporation.
