What is important is to carry out a proper investigation on the Easter Sunday attacks by an independent committee and to reveal who was really responsible for the carnage, Auxiliary Bishop of Colombo J. A. Anthony Jayakody said yesterday.
Bishop Jayakody told journalists that revealing who was behind the attack is important as the the public was well informed about things these days.
Asked about the church’s opinion about the Parliamentary Select Committee and the investigations carried out by the commission appointed by the President, the Bishop said one has to wait till the select committee comes out with its report in order to make an assessment of its value.
“It is not possible to give an assessment on these two committees until their reports come out,” the bishop said.
Bishop Jayakody's comments came in the aftermath of Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe requesting the select committee to meet Cardinal Malcolm Ranjith and over the reports of the investigations carried out on the Easter Sunday attacks by the intelligence units to him.
Prime Minister was of the opinion that it was proper to present the intelligence reports to the Cardinal as the church has legitimate concerns and has a right to know whether investigations into the Easter Sunday attacks were carried out in a proper manner.
