Shashindra's support is not for father

Former Uva Provincial Chief Minister Shashindra Rajapaksa says that if a Rajapaksa is contesting at the next Presidential Election, it should be Gotabhaya Rajapaksa.

Speaking to Irida Lankadeepa he has told that Six Rajapaksas are currently in politics and Mahinda Rajapaksa has taken a decision at his residence after discussing with all of them to nominate Gotabhaya Rajapaksa for the next presidential election.

He has further stated even though his father's name too is on the line they will nominate Gotabhaya Rajapaksa.

6 out of 30 cabinet ministers are Rajapaksas

He said he is the Former Chief Minister of Uva Province and that he personally thinks it is a qualification for a cabinet minister, hence he should be appointed a cabinet minister in the next government.

He said that he has a long history in politics and when Mahinda Rajapaksa was appointed Prime Minister in 2002 he acted as the Secretary and also served President Mahinda Rajapaksa for nine years as the Secretary.He added that he became the Chief Minister of Uva Province securing highest number of votes and as all Chief Ministers starting from Montegu Jayawickrama were given cabinet minister positions he should also be given one.

Meanwhile, he says that if President Maithripala Sirisena contests as a candidate for the next presidential election, he will only receive 400,000 votes.
