Court approval for CID to obtain statement from Pujith

The CID has been granted approval by the courts to obtain a statement from former IGP Pujith Jayasundara who has been sent on compulsory leave.

This is with regard to criminal coercion on a police constable who was employed as a lift operator at the Police Headquarters in 2017.

The Colombo Fort Magistrate Ranga Dissnayake granted approval.

The IG is currently receiving treatment at the Narahenpita Police Hospital under police and prison protection.

Subsequent to the investigations establishing that the IG had criminally shirked his responsibilities with regard to the Easter attacks, the CID had arrested him and after producing him in court, he was ordered to be remanded until July 09th.
