Sri Lanka’s first museum of ancient technology to be opened today

The President will declare open Sri Lanka’s first museum and library of ancient technology in Polonnaruwa today (3 July), the President’s Media Division (PMD) said.

The PMD said in a statement yesterday that the museum will provide a platform to study various technologies employed by ancient Sri Lankans and was established with the objective of collecting and preserving old technological equipment for future generations.

The three-storey museum building was constructed under the ‘Awakening Polonnaruwa Programme’ at a cost of Rs. 900 million and provides valuable information about the Polonnaruwa kingdom, according to the PMD.

Information at the museum will be available in Sinhala, Tamil and English languages, the PMD added.
