Kuragala Viharaya to be renovated

The historic Kuragala Viharaya in Balangoda will be renovated at a cost of over Rs. 50 million, Housing, Construction and Cultural Affairs Minister Sajith Premadasa said.

The Ministry has decided to allocate Rs. 9.5 million to reconstruct the access road to the sacred temple and Rs. 15 million to supply electricity to the entire premises including the access road and Dagaba.

The Ministry said Rs. 2.5 million would be allocated to provide drinking water, Rs. 9 million to provide sanitary facilities, Rs. 8 million to construct the Sangawasa building, and Rs. 5.6 million to construct an office and rest house.

A security fence will be erected at a cost of Rs. 1.4 million and a security room at a cost of Rs. 500,000.

Kuragala is a pre-historic archaeological site with ruins of an ancient Buddhist cave temple complex.
