P’ment to debate CBSL 2020 Annual Report on Friday

General Sir John Kotelawala National Defence University Bill among others to be taken up for debate


A day-long adjournment debate on the 2020 Annual Report of the Central Bank of Sri Lanka will take place on Friday, party leaders decided yesterday.

The debate will start at 11:00 a.m. and continue till 5:30 p.m.

This will be among several important debates scheduled during the four sitting days of the House, which begins today.

The House will debate the Code of Criminal Procedure (Amendment) Bill, Convention against Torture and Other Cruel, Inhuman or Degrading Treatment or Punishment (Amendment) Bill, an Order under the Code of Criminal Procedure (Special Provisions) Act and the revision of salaries and allowances accorded to the Office of the Missing Persons today.

On Wednesday, two Orders under the Export Development Act are to be taken up for debate and approved.

The Registration of Electors (Amendment) Bill, General Sir John Kotelawala National Defence University Bill, Regulations under the Immigrants and Emigrants Act will be taken up for debate on Thursday.

Question time will be held each day from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. while time has also been allotted for questions at the Adjournment Time on all three days except on Friday.

The Committee on Parliamentary Business, chaired by Speaker Mahinda Yapa Abeywardena, which met yesterday decided on the agenda for this week’s settings.

Leader of the House Dinesh Gunawardena, Leader of the Opposition Sajith Premadasa, Minister of Highways and Chief Government Whip Johnston Fernando, Chief Opposition Whip Lakshman Kiriella, Ministers Chamal Rajapaksa, Nimal Siripala de Silva and Prof. G.L. Peiris, Douglas Devananda, Dullas Alahapperuma, Wimal Weerawansa, Mahinda Amaraweera, Vasudeva Nanayakkara, M.U.M. Ali Sabry, Prasanna Ranatunga and MPs Anura Kumara Dissanayaka, Ranjith Madduma Bandara, Gayantha Karunatilleka, Rishad Bathiudeen and Sarath Fonseka were present at the meeting.
