Don’t leak results prior to official announcement: EC

The Election Commission said yesterday it would take steps to prevent election results being leaked to social media prior to the official results being released, an official said yesterday.

It held talks with the representatives of electronic media organisations yesterday to discuss logistical arrangements for the announcement of the results after counting was completed.

The EC said it was doing so to prevent the results being leaked to the people via social media platforms before the official announcement. An official who wished to remain anonymous said counting agents and others concerned would be instructed to desist from sharing information relating to results till the final approval is given.

Vote counting will start after polling closes at 4.00 on November 16. The EC will begin issuing the results later in the night on the same day.
