Six presidential candidates not handed asset declaration

Out of the 35 presidential candidates, six have yet not handed over their declaration of assets and liabilities to the Election Commission, accordi9ng to the Election Commissioner Mahinda Deshapriya.

He said that the Election Commission would take measures to file charges against those who fail to declare their assets within the stipulated period.

Out of the six candidates who had so far not handed over their asset declarations, one is a candidate of a prominent party and the other five are independent candidates.

Deshapriya noted that each candidate contesting the presidential election is give three months within which to hand over their asset declaration. However t is mandatory for the winning candidate to declare his assets and liabilities prior to taking oath.

However, he refused to divulge the names of the candidates who had not handed over their asset declarations.
