The new government will be continuing the programme of previous regime to provide lap tops for university students to maximise their potential to play a key role in the growth of the country.
As per the Government budget proposal 2016, the project has been implemented jointly by the Ministry of Higher Education and Highways, Ministry of Finance, University Grants Commission and Universities under the UGC.
Through this partnership, Singer Sri Lanka has offered DELL and Singer X-Series laptops to university students on a special interest-free loan scheme from two banking giants, People’s Bank and Bank of Ceylon organized by the Ministry of Higher Education.
Students had the option of choosing from a wide array of high performing laptops with the latest Intel 6th Generation i3 and i5 Processors and all laptops are equipped with latest features and genuine Windows 10 operating system during the previous regime. .
The University Grants Commission recently decided to offer concessionary loans to students who enroll to Sri Lankan universities, to purchase laptops to pursue their studies.
The loan facility of Rs. 100,000/- will be provided by a state bank, Vice-Chairperson of the University Grants Commission Senior Professor, Janitha. A. Liyanage stated.
Interestingly, the loan can be settled after the student completes his/her studies and obtains a degree.

Students who were selected to state universities following the 2019 Advanced Level Examination are provided online lectures for the subjects of IT and English, She further said.

People’s Bank has entered into a partnership with University Grant Commission (UGC) Sri Lanka to provide loan facilities to undergraduates of all universities in the country with easy repayment plans. .
With this historical partnership, all Sri Lankan undergraduates will benefit through a concessionary loan scheme to purchase laptop computers which suit their respective education areas.
