Govt. hikes annual levies on power licenses

The Government yesterday increased annual levies on companies holding generation, transmission and distribution licenses including renewable energy suppliers.

The Public Utilities Commission of Sri Lanka (PUCSL) Gazetted the new levies yesterday revoking the levies set out on 29 April 2019. Under the new regulations those holding a generation license (non-conventional renewable energy) have to pay Rs. 14,900 per 1 MW of actual installed capacity. Those holding generation technologies other than Non-Conventional Renewable Energy have to pay Rs. 14,900 per 1 MW of installed capacity or part thereof.

Companies holding a Transmission License have to pay Rs. 9,200.00 per 1 MW of “Peak Demand of previous year” or part thereof, under the new regulations. Distribution license holders have to pay Rs. 7,400.00 per 1 GWh of “Energy Billed of previous year” or part thereof, the Gazette notification said.
