A female Muslim doctor attached to the Homagama Base Hospital has allegedly resigned after a request was made to her to attend work without wearing a burqa.
According to reports, she had said she resigned for personal reasons. According to a source at the hospital, an incident was reported at the end of April where some patients and hospital staff had protested after she came to work wearing a burqa.
She had sent her resignation letter on May (16). The hospital authorities had sent a response letter on May (20) acknowledging her letter of resignation and stating the benefits she will be losing. Her letter had been sent to the Medical Superintendent of the hospital.
