President Maithripala Sirisena had agreed to award the state ministerial post of the Law and Order Ministry to the UNP, but the UNP had turned down the offer.
The UNP had refused the state ministerial portfolio stating that they would only accept the Cabinet ministerial portfolio.
It is reported that the relevant discussion had taken place during the meeting between the President and Prime Minister last Monday.
During the meeting the President had said that he is willing to give the state ministerial portfolio of the Law and Order Ministry to anyone from the UNP.
He had also expressed willingness to hand over the Media Cabinet ministerial post to anyone from the UNP.
