SLT battles against the Covid -19 and cash flow issues

Sri Lanka Telecom (SLT) the country’s premier integrated telecommunication services provider is now battling a two pronged war against the corona virus pandemic and the cash flow issues trade unions alleged.

The financial and administration situation of the listed entity is going bad to worse due to corruption; mal practices wheeler dealings of the top management high officials in the past several years even during the Covid-19 crisis period.

In SLT, the recent trend is that under performers are rewarded and able men are side lined; meritocracy is suppressed by mere personnel loyalty.

Fabricated business cases have been prioritised and there are no reviews for target achievements as given in the original business case.

Value killers are rewarded with promotions and other means, while whistle blowers, innovators and intellectuals are being suppressed, trade unions said.

SLT Chairman Rohan Fernando has informed the trade unions these are management related issues and it should to be resolved by the CEO & COO who are also engineers and members of the Engineers union. Some of the issues date back to several previous administrations.

As an Independent non-executive Chairman, he said that he can only review the recommendations sent to the board by the management on these issues.

Hence please review all the issues, discuss with the TEU as instructed by on the earlier occasion and submit a report to the Board and inform the TEU accordingly he opined.
