SLT employees to boycott Strategic Business plan event

Sri Lanka Telecom(SLT) employees will be boycotting the upcoming event of “Reshaping our future 2020-2022 and Strategic Business plan with National Digital Road map” scheduled to be held on 31st August & 1st September 2019.

This decision was taken by Telecommunication Engineers Union as a mark of protest against “messing up the roles of operation and governance of the company” and in order to safeguard it for the benefit of all SLT employees

Similar action will be extended for any unproductive event in future, trade union leaders said.

Trade unions of SLT vehemently protested against the structural changes made in the establishment by creating crisis situation pushing employees and consumers in a serious difficulty.

This has signaled the down fall of the institution further amidst dwindling revenue and frustration of employees, trade union leaders said.

Unresolved Problems of employees, irregular promotions and recruitment s, granting extensions for over aged officials, protecting corrupt officials resource s and financial misappropriation have become the order of the day at Sri Lanka Telecom, they added.

SLT has been allowed to fall in a massive debt trap by spending money unnecessary for meaningless programmes, projects and ceremonies by the present management.

Telecommunication Engineers Union of SLT launched an agitation campaign against SLT Chairman Pallewatte Gamaralalage Kumarasinghe Sirisena, the brother of President Maithripala Sirisena.
SLT trade unions allege that under Sirisena’s watch the institution had lost Rs. 50 billion due to short-sighted decisions and wasteful expenditure.
