The Health Ministry is highly concerned with the dramatic increase in the number of COVID deaths, Deputy Director General of Health Services Dr. Hemantha Herath said.
He told a news briefing today that it could be an early warning of an imminent danger.
“Though it is too early to arrive at a conclusion on the situation, it is absolutely important to take a serious note of this,” he emphasised.
“There is a separate team in the Epidemiology Unit to look into this and analyse as to why the deaths went up. We will be getting a report on this in the future,” he added.
However, Dr. Herath urged people to be extra cautious especially in a situation where restrictions have been eased.
The daily fatality number which fluctuates around 18 increased to 31 on Monday (22). (Daily Mirror)
