Govt. gazettes Appropriation Bill 2022; to House next week

The Government yesterday gazetted the Appropriation Bill for 2022 with expenditure for 2022 estimated at Rs. 2.5 trillion and with the limit of borrowing set at Rs. 3.18 trillion.

The Appropriation Bill 2022 is due to be presented to Parliament next week, Leader of the House Minister Dinesh Gunawardena revealed yesterday at the meeting of the Committee on Parliamentary Business chaired by Speaker Mahinda Yapa Abeywardena.

Parliament will sit for five days next week with the whole of Monday allocated for question time, which was delayed due to restricted Parliament sittings last month due to the COVID-19 situation.

On Tuesday, regulations and orders under the Value Added Tax Act, Inland Revenue Act and an Order under the Finance Act will be taken for debate.

The Second Reading of the Petroleum Resources Bill will be held on Wednesday while the Registration of Electors (Amendment) Bill, Employees’ Provident Fund (Amendment) Bill and an Order under the Employees Provident Fund will be taken up next Thursday.

The Adjournment debate on the Mid-Year Financial Position Report for the year 2021 will be taken up for debate next Friday.
