Out of the work force in Sri Lanka 420,231 are currently unemployed, while 188,428 of them have A/L or higher education qualifications, according to the Sri Lanka Workforce quarterly report.
This information was derived from 2019 second quarter surveys conducted by the Census and Statistics Department.
Currently, the 8,623,249 of the country’s population is economically active, while the inactive population is around 7,775,509.
A main factor revealed by this report is that 9.5% of those with A/L or higher educational qualifications are unemployed.
The total unemployment rate in the country is 4.9%, the unemployment rate of those with O/L or lesser educational standards is around 2.5% and unemployment among those with up to O/L qualifications is 6.5%.
