Government orders inquiry report on faulty Chinese train compartments

A high level probe gets underway into the faulty brake system of around 100 Chinese made coaches which are not fit for local rail tracks.

The Sri Lankan government has announced that it will replace the brakes on faulty Chinese train compartments used in the island nation.

The government said there are in total 100 Chinese train compartments used in Sri Lanka, which are faulty.

Sri Lanka's Railways General Manager, Dilantha Fernando told Colombo Gazette that Chinese train compartments are equipped with disk brakes, which Sri Lankan trains do not use.

Transport Minister Gamini Lokuge has instructed the Railway Engineering Department to submit a report on faulty Chinese train compartments in Sri Lanka.

Minister Lokuge instructed the Railway Engineering Department to inquire and submit a report as a number of complaints were filed by train engine drivers in this regard in the recent past.
