For two years, Police constables and police sergeants have not been given caps while female officers haven't been shoes, reports say.
It is said these police personnel are severely inconvenienced as it is not possible to purchase these in the open market.
Two years ago, 75,000 caps were imported from overseas for junior police officers, but distribution was suspended due to a change in the front of the caps.
Therefore, this stack has been gathering dust at a warehouse in Maradana for two years. The company has also refused to retrieve this stock.
When inquired of this from the Police Spokesperson - SSP Jaliya Senaratne, he admitted such an issue does persist and Tender activities have been held to purchase 60,000 new caps in the next four months.
