The Executive Presidency is still a powerful position despite the 19th Amendment, Opposition Leader Mahinda Rajapaksa said yesterday insisting they have picked the candidate who can make the most of that power to deliver effective leadership to develop the country.

“We congratulate you on being the presidential candidate. We received this news from the Maldives,” UPFA Genberal Secretary Mahinda Amaraweera had congratulated Speaker Karu Jayasuriya prior to the commencement of the party leaders meeting yesterday (03).

ආසියාවේ වේගවත් ආර්ථික සංවර්ධනය ශී‍්‍ර ලංකාවටද අත්පත් කර ගැනීමට නව සැලසුම් සකස් කරන බව ශී‍්‍ර ලංකා පොදුජන පෙරමුණේ ජනාධිපති අපේක්‍ෂක ගෝඨාභය රාජපක්‍ෂ පවසනවා. ඔහු පෙන්වා දෙන්නේ තරුණ තරුණියන්ගේ ආර්ථිකය වර්ධනය කිරීම සඳහාද සැලසුම් සකස් කළ යුතු බවයි.

ශ්‍රී ලංකා නිදහස් පක්ෂයට පෞද්ගලික න්‍යාය පත්‍ර නොමැති බවත්, රට ගැන සිතා හැමවිටම පක්ෂය තීන්දු ගන්නා බවත් ශ්‍රීලනිප උප සභාපති මහින්ද අමරවීර මහතා පවසයි. ඔහු මේ බව ප්‍රකාශ ‍කළේ කොළඹ සුගතදාස ගෘහස්ත ක්‍රීඩාංගනයේදී ආරම්භ වූ ශ්‍රීලනිප 68 වැනි සංවත්සර සැමරුමට සහභාගි වෙමිනි.

අග‍්‍රාමාත්‍ය රනිල් වික‍්‍රමසිංහ මහතා හමුවීමට එක්සත් ජාතික පෙරමුණේ පක්ෂ නායකයන් තීරණය කර තිබෙනවා. හෙට (05) දිනයේදී මෙම හමුව සිදුවෙනු ඇති බවයි වාර්තා වුණේ. ඒ, ජනාධිපතිවරණ අපේක්ෂකත්වය සහ නව සන්ධානය සම්බන්ධයෙන් පවතින ගැටළු නිරාකරණය කරගැනිමේ අරමුණින්. අපේක්‍ෂකයා ප්‍රමාදවීම ගැටළුවක් බවයි එක්සත් ජාතික පෙරමුණේ සාමාජික අමාත්‍ය පාඨලී චම්පික රණවක ප‍්‍රකාශ කළේ.

Leader of Opposition Mahinda Rajapaksa in a letter addressed to Speaker had requested that the voting of proposed People’s Bank (Amendment) Bill scheduled for today be postponed.

හිටපු ජනාධිපති මහින්ද රාජපක්ෂ මහතාට නැවත වතාවක් ජනාධිපති ධුරය සදහා තරග කිරීමට ඇති බාධාව වශයෙන් සැළකෙන්නේ 19 වැනි ආණ්ඩුක්‍රම ව්‍යවස්ථා සංශෝධනයයි. බොහෝ දෙනා එකී ව්‍යවස්ථා සංශෝධනය ⁣ද්වේෂ සහගත එකක් වශයෙන් හැදින්වීමට පදනම් කරගන්නේද එම ප්‍රතිපාදනයයි.

President Maithripala Sirisena declared yesterday that the Sri Lanka Freedom Party’s primary focus is victory at the next parliamentary elections rather than the presidential election since the main centre of power was now in Parliament and with the government rather than with the presidency. Speaking as Party chairman at the SLFP’s 68th anniversary celebrations held at the Sugathadasa Indoor Stadium, Colombo, President Sirisena pointed out that after the 19th amendment, the Constitution no longer empowered the presidency.
