The National People’s Movement is said to be planning on fielding former Army Commander Mahesh Senanayake as a presidential candidate, it is reported.
The National People’s Movement has held extensive discussions regarding a candidate who could give leadership to the country and had also discussed the pros and cons of fielding a candidate who is not a politician.
However, when asked regarding his plans of contesting, Senanayake said that he had not taken such a decision.
He noted that time will provide answers to these issues.
“However, time will resolve everything. There should be a difference in the country’s political system. I am ready to assist resolve this issue. However, I have not yet taken any decision to contest the election,” Senanayake told the media.
The National People’s Movement is made up of intellectuals and they are working towards making a change in the country’s political situation.
