SJB demands action against State Ministers who went for Olympics

Action must be taken against the state ministers who had travelled to Japan to watch the Olympic Games for violating MP's Code of Ethics, the Opposition said today.

SJB MP and Chief Opposition Whip Lakshman Kiriella told a press conference that action can be taken against these state ministers as per the code of ethics for MPs introduced a few years ago.

"An MP is expected to inform Parliament if they get any benefit from anyone, including the private sector. Therefore the State Ministers who went to Japan should have informed that they were sponsored by an outsider. Action can be taken against them as they have not informed the House about the sponsorship," Mr. Kiriella said.

"Ultimately there are MPs who are ready to auction their MPs post for monetary gains. This is why any government is able get any draconian law enacted," he added. (Daily Mirror)
