Minister of Energy Udaya Gammanpila says based on the No Confidence Motion tabled against him by the opposition, the public can derive that he is the most powerful person in the present government.
During this morning’s Parliament session, Parliamentarian Nalin Bandara requested Minister Gammanpila to reveal the most powerful person in the government.
MP Bandara said although the Energy Minister had claimed the recent fuel hike was announced with the knowledge of the President, the Prime Minister and the Cabinet, the General Secretary of the ruling Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna had refused to accept the claim.
MP Nalin Bandara said therefore they are of the view that a superior force than the President and the Cabinet is handling affairs of the government and urged the Energy Minister to reveal the individual behind the fuel price hike.
In response, Minister Udaya Gammanpila said when analyzing the contents of the No Confidence Motion tabled by the opposition, he has been led to believe that he is the most powerful person in the government.
Meanwhile, Minister Gammanpila claimed if the present administration continued to implement the previous government’s fuel pricing formula, the prices of petrol and diesel would be much higher at present.
He said although a litre of 92 Octane petrol is sold at Rs.157 at present based on the calculation of the previous government’s fuel pricing formula it would be at Rs.164.
The Energy Minister added although a litre of diesel is sold at Rs.111 at present, if the fuel pricing formula was used, it would increase to Rs.122.
He said therefore the public is benefiting from the decision to not implement the previous government’s fuel pricing formula.
