Muslim ministers to take back portfolios

Muslim ministers who resigned have decided to return to their Ministerial portfolios upon President Maithripala’s return to the country.

UNP MP Mujibur Rahuman told the Daily News that President Maithripala Sirisena prior to leaving to the UK had made a request from the Muslim MPs to return to their ministries.

“At this meeting held yesterday we consented and agreed on returning to work as many of the allegations and issues had been amicably resolved,” he said.

The ministers would be sworn in upon the President’s return from his private visit to the UK. “We also discussed the need for reforms of the Muslim Marriage and Divorce Act (MMDA) as well as the Madrasa Act,” he said.
