The Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) will take a final decision this week on whether to go before the Supreme Court against the proposed 20th Amendment to the Constitution.
SJB MP Harin Fernando said that their legal team was studying the matter. “Our lawyers are going over the matter and the SJB parliamentary group will take a decision next week, at the latest,” he said.
He added that going before the judiciary was only one option. “We are also looking to see what other options we have in this regard.”
Meanwhile, the United National Party (UNP) too was moving forward with regard to action on the 20th Amendment. Senior sources said that they were looking at all options.
“It has to have the necessary ingredients for a win-win (situation). We need things that are not inimical to the system,” sources said.
