New Government is now focusing attention on resolving Police and public issues amicably following the Ranjan gate revelations and public complaints on the attitude of police officers when hearing their grievances, official sources said.
An initial step towards this end the government will be concentrating on the Police Grievance Day to find solutions to public complaints on Police and pending administrative issues and problems among Police personnel will be held at the Suhurupaya in Battaramulla on January 29.
Defence State Minister Chamal Rajapaksa will lead the proceedings, which is scheduled to be conducted in Colombo from 9.00 am to 3.00 pm, next Wednesday.
About 200 applications received by the Law and Order Section will be selected to solve and will be forwarded to relevant sections of the Police for recommendations after considering the legal provisions related to those issues.
According to the Defence Ministry's Law and Order Section prompt action will be taken by Minister Rajapaksa and Acting Inspector General of Police C.D. Wickramaratne to resolve the issues submitted on this day.
The Police Grievance Day will be held under the directives of President Gotabaya Rajapaksa, who has instructed the Police Department to make it an annual event to address unresolved issues, which were reported by Police personnel but not yet addressed by the relevant authorities or other Public complaints about the Police.
The Police Department now comes under the Law and Order Section of the Defence Ministry.
