Presidential Task Force on Economic Revival and Poverty Eradication Chairman Basil Rajapaksa said that one billion rupees has been allocated for a month from this year’s budget for the development of the domestic economy alone with the aim of rebuilding the country’s economy which has been hit hard by the COVID-19 pandemic.
Accordingly, he pointed out that a sum of ten billion rupees has been allocated from next year’s budget for the development of the domestic economy.
He was speaking at the Uva Provincial Committee discussion on the implementation of the 2021 Budget Proposals’ ‘Gama Samaga Pilisandarak’ (Talk with the Village) and ‘Weda Samaga Yali Gamata’ (Back to the Village with work) National Programme at the Uva University Auditorium in Badulla yesterday (18).
He said that while implementing the budget proposals, the suggestions of the rural people will be taken into consideration while the projects will be implemented and the rural people will be involved in monitoring them. Earlier, the political leadership had assisted in the implementation of the budget proposals, but now public officials also have the ability to intervene and the people’s representatives in the villages, Government officials and community leaders are requested to co-operate in this task.
Meanwhile, he pointed out that although there are reports of a surplus of funds in a number of community based organizations throughout the country, they will be monitored and a common decision will be reached in a legal manner and the views expressed in this regard can be submitted to the Secretary to the President.
Southern Province Governor Willie Gamage, Labour Minister Nimal Siripala de Silva, State Ministers Shashindra Rajapaksa, Vijitha Berugoda, Thenuka Vidanagamage, MP Jagath Pushpa Kumara, Dilan Perera and many other political representatives and Government officials representing the Badulla and Moneragala districts were present.
