Special plan to ensure the safety of Sri Lankans in South Korea

Following the outbreak of the corona virus, a special plan has been implemented to ensure the safety of Sri Lankans residing in South Korea.

The Government Medical Officers Association (GMOA) informed the state health authorities that the Mandativu Island in Jaffna District could be used as a quarantine centre for Sri Lankans arriving from South Korea.

This island has been used for health camps in the past and it is suitable or carrying out quarantine activities for returnees from Souh Korea, GMOA said.

As part of the Sri Lanka Navy’s community development and social responsibility project, the Northern Naval Command is used to conduct field health clinics at the St. Peter's Church on Mandativu Island in the past..

During the clinics, the patients were given treatment for communicable, non-communicable and respiratory diseases as well as child and women health care and health issues of elderly persons.

The number of deaths reported from South Korea due to the Coronavirus has increased up to 12 while the number of affected patients stands at 1776.

The US government has issued a travel advisory warning its citizens to avoid travelling to South Korea due to the spread of the virus.

The South Korean Embassy said that a special plan is in effect to ensure the safety of the Sri Lankans residing in several areas across South Korea.
