Starting from November this year, the government will introduce an eye scan recognition system for all Sri Lankans applying for passports, Immigration Controller General Pasan Ratnayake said.
While noting that cabinet approval has been granted to this effect, Mr. Ratnayake said that machines required to introduce this biometric system would be procured in due course.
He said that these machines would be imported as a security measure in a bid to identify blacklisted individuals and prevent them from entering the country.
Accordingly, special scanners too would be installed at the Bandaranaike International Airport to scan these details which would be included in passports.
