Train strike called off

The railway trade unions today decided to call off their trade union action after a favourable response following the discussion with the transport Minister a short while ago, Locomotive Engine Operators' Union (LEOU) Secretary Indika Dodangoda said.

He told the Daily Mirror that the discussion held at the Transport Ministry between the LEOU and the Railway Guards' Union.

During the discussions, the Minister appointed a review committee chaired by the Transport Ministry Secretary.

They said the Committee was appointed to analyze the demands tabled by the railway trade unions.

Both the trade unions had begun a strike from last night over several demands including the decision of the government to recover the losses from the railway employees for the operational errors that occur during the operation of trains. (Daily Mirror)
